Which musician of African-French-Blackfoot Native American descent has played with Stevie Wonder, McCoy Tyner, Roberta Flack, Santana, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Eric Clapton, Weather Report, Chubby Checker, and Larry Coryell? Alphonse Mouzon is best known as a fusion player, but the drummer-percussionist has always displayed mastery over multiple musical genres. Baby Come Back represents Mouzon’s 1979 foray into the disco jungle. Mouzon covers two Beatles pieces as well as his own compositions, all dressed in disco. The exception is Jimi Hendrix’s Manic Depression, served up in true rock fashion. Mouzon acts as producer, conductor, arranger, sings lead and backup vocals, plays drums, percussion, piano, electric piano, and synthesizer. Definitely for disco fans and those curious as to how Mouzon fares in this pop milieu. Noteworthy are Bob Malach’s funky sax and Robert Etoll’s rock guitar. These could be retro hits. Dance to the music.
